Why Your Eyes Need Their Own Skincare Routine | Midlife Eye Care Guide
Looking after your eyes isn't about trying to look younger. It's about looking in the mirror and feeling a little more like yourself again.
Have you ever caught yourself looking in the mirror and thought,
"Goodness... I look tired."
Even after a decent night's sleep?
For many women in their forties, fifties and beyond, the first place we notice changes isn't actually the rest of our face.
It's our eyes.
The skin looks thinner.
Puffiness seems to hang around longer.
Dark circles appear from nowhere.
Those little fine lines become a little more noticeable.
And it's very easy to wonder whether your skincare has suddenly stopped working.
The good news is...
Your skin hasn't failed.
Your eyes are simply different.
I've looked after the eye area for well over twenty years.
Not because I wanted to stop myself ageing.
I don't.
I quite like the fact I have smile lines.
They remind me I've laughed a lot.
But I do want to keep my skin healthy, comfortable and well looked after.
I also have incredibly sensitive eyes, so I've always had to be careful about what I use around them.
That's one of the reasons I wanted to write this guide.
Because understanding why the eye area behaves differently makes choosing the right products so much easier.
Over the next week I'll also be introducing each of the eye care products I use on my socials, so if you're wondering which one might suit you, keep an eye on my Instagram or my Facebook Page.
1. Why is the skin around my eyes different?
2. What causes dark circles, puffiness and fine lines?
3. Do you really need a separate eye product?
4. Eye Work Rejuvenating Serum - your morning wake-up call
5. Eye Lift Exosome Midnight Balm for overnight support
6. Hydrogel Eye Masks for when your eyes need a quick boost
7. Lashful Eyelash Growth Serum
8. A simple eye care routine
9. Choosing where to start
10.Ready to find teh right routine?
The skin around your eyes is one of the thinnest areas anywhere on your body.
In fact, it's up to five times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face.
It also contains fewer oil glands, so it loses moisture much more easily.
That means dryness, fine lines and sensitivity often appear here long before they appear anywhere else.
Then there's movement.
Every single day your eyes blink, smile, squint, laugh, frown and stare at computer screens.
That's thousands of tiny movements every day.
It's no surprise this area starts asking for a little extra care.
Your everyday facial moisturiser is designed for the thicker skin on the rest of your face.
The eye area simply has different needs.

This is probably the question I'm asked more than any other.
The answer is usually a combination of things.
Dark circles
These can be caused by genetics, thinning skin, tiredness, dehydration and even spending too much time looking at screens.
Puffiness
Often caused by fluid retention.
A salty meal, allergies, alcohol, warm weather, lack of sleep or simply lying flat overnight can all make puffiness more noticeable first thing in the morning.
Fine lines
As we move through our thirties, forties and fifties, our collagen and elastin naturally begin to decline.
Because the eye area is already thinner and drier, those changes usually show here first.
None of this means you've done anything wrong.
It's simply part of how this delicate area works.

In my opinion...
Yes.
Not because skincare companies want to sell you another product.
Because your eye area genuinely behaves differently.
Face creams are often richer and formulated for stronger skin.
Some ingredients can even feel too heavy or irritating around the eyes.
Eye products are designed specifically for this delicate area.
They're lighter, gentler and targeted towards concerns like puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.
The good news?
You don't need a bathroom cabinet full of products.
Most women only need one or two products used consistently.
Small changes really do make the biggest difference.

If your eyes always look tired before you've even had your first cup of tea, this is probably where I'd start.
Eye Work helps brighten, cool and refresh tired-looking eyes.
Vitamin C helps brighten the appearance of dark circles.
Coffee cherry extract helps reduce puffiness.
Hibiscus peptides help improve the appearance of fine lines and firmness.
One of my favourite things is the cooling metal applicator.
It feels wonderfully soothing first thing in the morning, especially if your eyes feel puffy.
Clinical studies showed an increase in under-eye brightness after four weeks of consistent use.

This is the product I recommend when someone says,
"My eye area just doesn't feel as firm as it used to."
Rather than simply moisturising, Eye Lift focuses on supporting the skin while you sleep.
It combines advanced skincare technology with ingredients chosen to help improve firmness, support collagen production and soften the appearance of fine lines.
It also has the same beautifully cooling metal applicator, making it a lovely part of an evening routine.
If loss of firmness is your biggest concern, this is the one I'd be looking at.

Sometimes you don't need a whole new routine.
You simply need your eyes to look fresher.
These cooling masks are brilliant before a special occasion, after travelling, following a poor night's sleep or whenever your eyes need a little extra care.
They instantly cool the skin, helping reduce the appearance of puffiness while delivering lasting hydration.
They're one of those lovely little treats that make you feel cared for.

Healthy lashes frame the eyes beautifully.
Lashful has been designed to support lashes through every stage of their natural growth cycle.
It's suitable for sensitive eyes, ophthalmologist tested and free from hormone-disrupting ingredients found in many traditional lash serums.
If your lashes feel thinner than they used to, it's a lovely addition once you've established your skincare routine.

One thing I never want skincare to become is another overwhelming job on your to-do list.
Simple is always better.
Morning:
Cleanse
Tone
Eye Work
Moisturiser
Lashful (if using)
SPF
Evening
Cleanse
Tone
Eye Lift
Moisturiser
Lashful (if using)
When needed
Hydrogel Eye Masks whenever your eyes need an extra boost.
That's it.
Consistency matters far more than having lots of products.

If you're reading this and wondering whether you need all four products...
You probably don't.
Start with the concern that bothers you most.
Puffiness.
Dark circles.
Fine lines.
Or lashes.
Build one simple habit.
Once that's part of your routine, you can always add something else later if you want to.
Because skincare shouldn't feel complicated.
It should feel like one small part of choosing yourself again.

Over the next week I'll be sharing each of these products on my social media, showing exactly how I use them and explaining who each one is best suited to.
If you're still not sure where to begin, my free AI Skin Quiz will recommend products based on your own skin concerns.
Or, if you'd simply like to explore the range, you can browse the full eye care collection whenever you're ready.
After all, looking after your eyes isn't about looking younger.
It's about feeling comfortable in your own skin... and recognising the woman looking back at you in the mirror.
Take care of yourself.
You deserve it.
